Exceptional Choices in 5 Different Price Ranges

Well, I believe there's no need to elaborate much on the content of this article, as the title is quite self-explanatory. However, I would like to clarify a few criteria for the selections that follow.

Firstly, the majority of prospective buyers fall within the price ranges mentioned below, and naturally, we’ll be discussing watches that start at particularly affordable prices. Secondly, I haven’t focused on any specific brand or type of watch; instead, I've highlighted truly exceptional options that are sure to impress both you and those around you. Thirdly, I haven't limited the choices to a particular style. In the selections below, you’ll find everything from dress watches to dive watches and more. Lastly, I've made an effort to avoid watches that are commonly found at the top of random Google search results, focusing instead on pieces that require a bit more effort to discover.

CATEGORY: So, it's time to get a decent watch (up to €200), Timex Marlin TW2W51400 Chronograph

Alright, finding a Timex watch might not require digging through some forgotten corner of the internet, but in this case, we’re talking about a true gem. With its unique salmon color, 40mm case diameter, chronograph function, and reliable quartz movement, this watch stands out.

It’s almost unbelievable that Timex, a brand synonymous with quality in this budget range, delivers such a refined and impressive watch. With several color options available in this collection, I believe this particular model is the standout choice for those seeking something that truly sets itself apart from the more mainstream selections.

It can be found for less than €200.

CATEGORY: I’ve decided to spend a bit more, and everyone will notice! Bulova Lunar Pilot 98K112

This might not be one of the most wearable watches on the market, but it comes with a rich history and undeniable recognition. The updated Lunar Pilot features a 43.5mm case diameter, a significant improvement over its 45mm predecessor. However, I suspect Bulova has more enhancements in store for the future. The real strength of this watch lies in its exceptional quartz movement, arguably the best under €1,000. The ‘Precisionist’ movement operates at 262kHz, offering the smooth sweep of an automatic mechanism with the added benefit of precision—boasting an impressive accuracy of just ±10 seconds per year.

You wouldn't call it a gem... It's definitely a showstopper!

You can find it on the market for around €600.

CATEGORY: I'm buying a stunner, even if I have to walk to work next month! Mido Multifort TV Big Date M049.526.11.041.00

We can all see what Mido did here, and the truth is, they did it brilliantly! While the resemblance to the legendary Patek Philippe 5711 is noticeable, the new Mido Multifort has a character all its own, just enough to keep it from being labeled as an homage—albeit narrowly.

With impressive dimensions (39.2mm x 40mm), an excellent bracelet, and a stunning big date window that gives a nod to German craftsmanship, everything works beautifully in this well-tested formula, especially in a price range where the competition is fierce. In my humble opinion, there isn't a better watch for the money.

It’s available on the market for around €1,200.

CATEGORY: Time to spoil myself... Oris Aquis Date Relief  01.733.7766.4158-07.8.22.05 PEB

As prices keep rising, it’s only natural to look for something truly special. How about a cherry dial? While it might not be a goldmine for Oris—given that a black or blue dial might appeal more to the majority in the diver’s category—I can assure you that a deep red dial of this size will capture everyone’s attention.

With a 41.5mm case diameter and a 48.5mm lug-to-lug measurement, this watch is perfectly balanced. It features an outstanding integrated stainless steel bracelet and a reliable, service-friendly SW200 movement (28,800 vph/4 Hz). An excellent choice that will not disappoint anyone daring enough to wear it.

It can be found for less than €2400.

CATEGORY: This could be my Endgame... MEISTERSINGER Lunascope LS908G

As we wrap up today’s article, we’re speaking directly to the hardcore enthusiasts—those who seek or at least appreciate true uniqueness and want a genuine work of art on their wrist. If precision or a watch you can ‘abuse’ in daily life is your concern, this might not be for you. Let me introduce you to the MEISTERSINGER Lunascope LS908G, a watch with a single hand and a stunning moon phase that graces one of the most unique dials in this price range.

Truth be told, reading the time on this watch is not difficult, as the solitary hand does a good job of indicating it. However, this may not suit those who prefer to be in precise sync with real-time. With a 40mm case diameter, an adequate 50-meter water resistance (it’s a dress watch—do you really need more?), an impressively deep blue dial, and possibly the most striking moon phase complication on a watch in this price range... Enjoy it irresponsibly!

You can find it on the market primarily between €4,000 and €4,400.

Homage watches - Do we actually need them?

One topic that's increasingly sparking debate among enthusiasts, and not just them, is the subject of homage watches. In this article, we'll briefly explore what these watches are, what the companies that produce them aim to achieve, whether they pose a threat to the market, and how we can benefit from their existence. First and foremost, at least officially and according to most online search results, homage watches are those that pay tribute to a past model by essentially copying certain features—sometimes a few, sometimes many—of the original pieces. From there, various subcategories of homage watches exist, but today we'll focus primarily on homage/copy hybrids. Most of us, if not all, are familiar with brands like Invicta, Steinhart, and more recently, Pagani Design and San Martin. These brands, usually offering affordable price points, have made it their mission to replicate some of the most iconic models from brands like Rolex—always a prime target for these companie...

My welcome

I think it is finally time for us to introduce ourselves, get to know each other, have discussions, and most importantly, embark on a journey together into the much-talked-about and sometimes misunderstood world of watches. My name is George, but I will be using "The Consultant" to communicate through this blog. I am an avid watch collector. Once an engineer, now a logistics specialist, and in the future, I hope to be a direct competitor or collaborator of Teddy Baldassarre and Jasper Lijfering. Soon to be a husband, and possibly a father in the coming years, but the constant in my life, for decades I dare say, has always been watches. Modern, vintage, classic, and timeless. You'll find a bit of everything in my collection, which I hope will grow even more throughout our journey, just as I imagine your collection will as you read these lines. We will primarily offer positive (and occasionally a bit more critical) commentary, with a relaxed and humorous tone, sometimes mo...

Seiko Panda Chronograph - The perfect daily wear

If you're in the market for a watch that’s both stunning to look at and practical to wear, the Seiko SSC813P1 might be the timepiece that’s calling your name. This watch has been turning heads ever since its release, and for a good reason. Some know it as the "Seiko Panda," "Speedtimer," or even "Baby Daytona." But whatever you choose to call it, one thing’s for sure—it’s a watch that punches well above its weight. So, buckle up as we dive into what makes this watch an absolute gem for collectors, enthusiasts, and everyday wearers alike. The Looks... Oh, my, God! The first thing you’ll notice when unboxing the Seiko SSC813P1 is its classic "Panda" dial configuration. The nickname "Panda" comes from the contrast between the white dial and the black sub-dials, which resemble a panda’s face. It’s a lovely design that immediately catches your attention without being too loud. It walks that fine line between sporty and classy, making ...
